Great Discounts on Dog Beds

If your dog goes through beds as quickly—or you're just looking to save cash—take a look at The Uncommon Dog's website. They offer the best prices on name brand dog beds, and discounts are often around 20 percent off. (Think of it like Marshall's or TJ Maxx.) They offer beds from some of my favorite brands, specifically eco-friendly companies like Bowsers and Harry Barker. You can even narrow your search by print, size, fabric, shape, features, or price. Another bonus? They give 10 percent of their annual net profits to the ASPCA.

An Indoor "Doggie Restroom"

Have you guys heard of the Potty Patch? I got this via email the other day, and I couldn't stop laughing at the infomercial. It's a soft grass mat billed as "an indoor doggie restroom." How it works is, your dog pees on the antimicrobial faux grass, and the urine drains into a tray two layers below that you have to wash out when you get home.

I'm not a huge fan of these for two reasons: 1) you're reinforcing your pet to pee in your living space (which is going to confuse him at some point), and 2) people get lazy and never take their dogs out for exercise when they have things like this out all the time. Still, I realize that it is a good solution for many, and saves dogs from having to "hold it" for a super long time in certain cases. Plus, it's sponsored by the AKC, so it can't be that bad. You can find them here for $39.99.

What do you guys think? Would you ever try one?

Dog Bed Duvet Covers

Skanky dog beds are just a part of a canine owner's life. Dogs are furry, slobbery, and they can't exactly take off their shoes when they come indoors. So when a dog's living in a city, who knows what kind of crap he's tracking into your apartment on his little paws? After your dog takes a stroll down filthy Lexington Avenue or scrounges through squirrel poop in Central Park, he's going to come home and plop himself right into his bed. And there lies the most concentrated receptacle of filth in your otherwise pristine apartment. (Or at least you hope.)

That's why I think Molly Mutts' dog bed duvet covers are so genius. They're affordable, so you can buy an extra one much like you'd have an extra set of sheets for yourself. The key, here, is washing and changing the covers fairly regularly.

Plus, the designs are just plain cute. They come in round and rectangular shapes, so they fit over most other dog bed filler. And if not, you can just cram your old clothes, socks, sheets, etc. inside, and your dog will be none the wiser.

Molly Mutts duvet covers run from about $20.00 to $38.00. To see their product line, click here.

Cruelty-Free Dog Products

One of my favorite sites, Luxist.com, recently had an item on a company called House of Dog, which makes 100% cruelty-free products from faux materials. They make collars, leashes, beds, bowls, carriers, and more. (As an aside, you may be wondering what kind of animal-related company would actually produce "pro-cruelty" dog products, but I suppose the "cruelty-free" label here simply indicates that none of these are made from actual leather.)

Now, I'm not going to lie to you. I'm not a huge fan of a ton of their products from an aesthetics standpoint, but I still felt it was worth mentioning given the whole "cruelty-free" thing. Also, if you care, celebs such as Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox-Arquette, Jewel, Cindy Crawford, Neil Patrick Harris, and others are all apparently fans of the line.

Designer Dog Beds

My friend Ashley recently told me about a cool site for dog beds that I hadn't heard about. It's called PawDigs, and while some of their beds are a little pricey, they're definitely worth it.

Beds by Madison Avenue Mutts

They carry a variety of beds from two of my favorite companies—Harry Barker and Madison Avenue Mutts. You can choose beds by size, and they even carry orthopedic pads, mats for crates or traveling, and variety of eco-friendly designs.

Here's their site if you want to take a look! http://www.pawdigs.com/
